Off the boat and on to Lucerne

We were the last off the boat as almost all the other travellers were progressing on to another vessel to continue with a cruise through France and eventually to Barcelona. Before we disembarked the first mate generously gave Master Reid a tour of the wheelhouse and made his day. He also ran off to his cabin and came back to gave Hugo a spare captain's cap he'd grabbed from his gear. Taxi to Basel railway station and train to Lucerne was pretty seamless. Our hotel on the banks of the lake is luxurious and feels huge after the cabins on the boat. It also has superb wifi! We can soak in a huge tub overlooking the lake. The weather, alas, remained cold and grey but the view was great nonetheless. We caught a bus into town for some groceries (room service prices are astronomical) and five minutes after getting off the bus, Mrs Reid and Master Reid had fulfilled standard Swiss retail cliches with the purchase of a watch and a Swiss Army knife respectively. Four days relaxing here before a train to Zurich and from there to London!
