Goodbye Lucerne, Hello London

After a subdued time in Lucerne and cold, foggy weather, the sunshine arrived on the morning of our departure. The spectacular views from our hotel's advertising suddenly came into view. A little disappointing we had only an hour to enjoy them - the rain and grey skies came back as we headed to the train - but beautiful all the same. Typical of everything Swiss the taxis arrived on time but after boarding the train to Zurich airport we waited as the clocks ticked past the scheduled departure time and eventually, after apologies in several languages a couple of times, Swiss Rail faced the inevitable - that this train was going nowhere. Fortunately we'd allowed enough time so we caught the same train an hour later. The next hurdle was to check in on our flights from Zurich Airport to London. Finding the correct check in location and then the barding gate proved quite the challenge with many trips up and down lifts and escalators and down corridors until success was achieved. It is a beautiful airport, but intuitive it is not. An uneventful flight to London was followed by a lightning fast passage through immigration, customs and baggage collection and straight into a maxi taxi and to Kensington. The flat, which I found by chance on the net was beautiful and a couple of minutes walk from everything (view from the window below).

An hour after arrival we were joined by Mrs Reid's uncle Barry McCarthy, the actor (really - look him up on IMDB) with whom we had a lovely time including a quick trip to a pub around the corner and of course the tearful reunion between he and his sister, Mrs Reid's mum, who has been the host on this European adventure.

The first full day in London saw us cruising some local shops with Mrs Reid in heaven in a multi-story organic produce market and including a huge 7 level toy store where Master Reid came home with a RC Ferrari to keep him occupied in tourist downtimes. Good times ahead
