Travelling on these river cruises is pretty sybaritic. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, food and alcohol are flowing freely at all times and lying on your bed watching the scenery pass by is very pleasant indeed, even with a grey outlook and snow. We arrive in Cologne for Easter Sunday and this saved us a fortune as everything was closed and the oohs and aahhs from Mrs Reid and her mother suggested the shops held many desirable items, thankfully unavailable for purchase. After wandering through the backstreets from the mooring to Cologne's famous cathedral, we made our way back to antique markets beside the Lindt chocolate museum where Mrs Reid indulged her passion for dark chocolate. Back on the boat for lunch and the onward journey to our next destination.

Amsterdam
After a pleasant train trip from Paris, Amsterdam emerged overcast and snowing. It was a brief walk to the cruise ship where we were greeted by warm food and drink. We settled in for a comfortable week of eating, drinking and occasional sightseeing. The first day involved museum and bus tours of the city followed by departure for an overnight cruise to Cologne.
Montmartre
Following a 1230am fire alarm and evacuation at the hotel (false alarm), Mrs Reid and I escape for a morning wander and lunch in Montmartre where it snowed lightly as we strolled the cobbled stones (note: health and safety risk).

Paris by night
A very slow bus ride in bumper to bumper traffic followed by dinner during a cruise down the Seine. Truly an exquisite city by night.

Arrival in Paris
Half an hour after arrival at our very nice Art Deco hotel, the assembled Reid Poulter clan headed out for a wander. No surprises for the first stop.
First full day in Paris
Hugo and I head for a morning stroll down the Champs Élysées while his mother and grandmother hit the shops. A the end of a long walk it was a little disappointing to discover the Louvre was closed on Tuesdays! The frequency of desirable vehicles, including happening on a publicity event for the new Alfa Romeo 4C kept him going.
Travel begins!
The trip to Europe began with an quick dash back to the house for documents for which both Mrs Reid and myself were sure the other was responsible. All was well by the time the plane was boarded. An extremely pleasant journey from Brisbane to Sydney to Abu Dhabi and on to Paris, due in large part to travelling Business Class. Master Reid adapted very quickly to the service level provided.
